SMT employees are frequently travelling the world so the Nautical News team would like to present some useful advice to make these journeys as safe and seamless as possible. Many thanks to SMT’s Travel Department for providing these helpful tips!

General Luggage Tips

1. Always check to make sure you have ALL of your luggage before leaving the airport.
2. You should have received a baggage claim tag for every bag that you checked in before departure. Make sure to save these tags until you have received all of your baggage
3. If your baggages is delayed or missing: Go immediately to the baggage service desk in the customs area at the airport. Your baggage claim will be registered and then you will receive a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) with a personal reference number. This number is needed for further follow up. After arrival inform the port Agent, Master and send a photo of the luggage claim to the SMT Travel Dept
4. Always carry a debit or credit card in the event that the airline charges you for a check-in bag and does not accept cash as a form of payment

Packing a Carry-on Bag:

3 Any documents you’ll need throughout the trip (passport, itineraries, tickets, WHOM & OK TO BOARD letters etc)
3 Daily medications
3 Phone charger
3 Any valuables
3 A change of underwear and change of location-appropriate clothes (in case your baggage is missing)
3 Small selection of toiletries
3 In-flight essentials (must-haves such as earbuds/headphones, a travel pillow and plenty of reading material)
3 DO NOT bring liquids or gels larger than 100 ml
3 DO NOT bury liquids or gels or laptops etc deep in your bag
3 DO NOT pack other prohibited items
